  • Climate

Jordan is blessed with a Mediterranean climate for pleasurable year-round travel. The best times to visit Jordan are spring (April-May) which brings optimal weather, lush with greenery, and Autumn (September-October) when the weather is delightful and dry (but not oppressive) and the Dead Sea and Red Sea are still pleasantly warm. Because of the capital city’s elevation evenings are cool.

Winter season, from November through March, is generally mild; spells of rain are interspersed with brilliant sunshine. Aqaba and Jordan Valley (Dead Sea area) are ideal winter resorts with temperature averaging 16-22°C (61-72 F) between November and April. Amman is sunny and cloudless from May to October, with average temperatures around 25°C (80 F).

  • Currency

The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar (symbol JD or JOD), which is often called “JD”. It is divided into 100 piasters (Pronounced Qirsh) or 1000 fils.

There are 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 JD notes (bills) used, and you will usually see prices written as 4.750. There also different coins from: 5, 10, 25, and 50 piasters. It is useful to carry some coins and low denominations.

In terms of credit cards American Express, Visa, Diners Club and MasterCard are accepted in hotels, restaurants and larger shops. ATMs can be found in most of the larger towns and throughout Amman.

Currency can be exchanged at major banks, local exchange houses and at most hotels. Changing money with an individual in the street is best to be avoided. The Jordanian Central Bank sets exchange rates daily.

As tourism is one of the most important sectors in Jordan’s economy, the Kingdom takes tourism and the safety of tourists extremely seriously. Because of the above mentioned reason your safety is the government’s special responsibility and generally there is no place in Amman or areas outside Amman where you would feel unsecure.
